West Midlands House are Leading the Way with Free Client Health Checks

West Midlands House of Gypsy Lane in Willenhall are leading the way for businesses across the West Midlands by being the first of its kind to provide it’s clients and employees with access to Free Health Checks and workshops.

On November the 2nd and the 3rd employees, and client alike will be able get a Free Health Check, on the House! Without having to leave their place of work, we spoke to West Midlands House Manager, Jeni Sellick about the motivation and importance of health checks being accessible in the work place and she had this to say: "We’ve all been there haven’t we? sometimes found it difficult to attend general health appointments when work gets demanding and we have family commitments too. Maybe we’ve let our general health take a back seat and stayed at the office to get a deadline met or been unable to find cover?  By bringing One You Walsall and My Time Active on board and offering these services on site we really hope to make a difference and make it easy for our residents to take advantage of this great initiative in their own office."

Health checks in business environments such as West Midlands House can make a real difference, with many business men/women often finding themselves too busy/engaged into looking after their own company's health that they tend to forget about their own. Stats have shown people are more likely to sign up to a health check at work then they are with their local GP, which in turn increases the chances of catching early signs of some diseases.

West Midlands House has a history of such projects being the home of well-known health focused companies, and even has it’s own therapy room for hire. One client, The Psychotherapy Clinic ran by Emma Griffiths who will be a volunteer in this project had the following to say: "We are really pleased to volunteer our services to West Midlands House. Employee health checks should include not just physical health, but our mental health too, as our mind and body are connected, contributing to our overall wellbeing. I'm looking forward to running a wellbeing workshop and a 1:1 drop in clinic for employees."

Do you think we should include free health checks into every workplace? As with health checks in the work environment it is encouraging employees/client to take care of their physical and mental self and in turn live a longer more fulfilling life, resulting in an increased work ethic by reducing staff taking prolonged absence from work due to neglecting their health.
