Lawyers Serve Up Free Legal Advice at Lunch Club

Tracy Worthington 1The implications of new data protection laws due to come into force later this Spring will be the focus of a free lunch club for people working in the HR sector in Wolverhampton this month.

Law firm FBC Manby Bowdler hosts its first HR Lunch Club of 2018 at its office in George Street, Snow Hill, on February 14. It is open to anyone who has to deal with employees at any level, from experienced in-house human resources managers to those with no HR experience.

The new General Data Protection Regulations, to be introduced in May 2018, will replace the UK’s 1998 Data Protection Act, with new powers for data regulators and much stricter operating boundaries for businesses that process personally identifiable information about individuals.

The Lunch Club will discuss how to start the GDPR process and delegates can share tips and suggestions on best practice. The firm’s Employment Team will be on hand to answer any questions.

Employment Partner, Tracy Worthington, said: “Tackling the forthcoming General Data Protection Regulations is a mammoth issue but we will examine what the new law means for people dealing with the HR function of a businesses.

“We’ll also be able to share experiences of what others in business are doing to be prepare for the forthcoming GDPR. The aim is to harmonise data protection across all EU member states by making it simpler for everyone to comply, but it does bring with it greater responsibilities for data processors and larger penalties for non-compliance that people need to be prepared for.”
