Black Country and the wider West Midlands region will welcome the news that HS2 has been given the green light to proceed.

Today business leaders across the Black Country and the wider West Midlands region will welcome the news that HS2 has been given the green light to proceed. Last night the BBC reported that the route linking London to Birmingham, and then on to Manchester and Leeds, will be given the go-ahead with the full project proceeding as planned.

Black Country Chamber of Commerce with key partners such as Midlands Connect, lobbied for the full delivery of HS2, allowing thousands of businesses and commuters to benefit from improved connectivity, improved transport times and greater capacity on the railways. HS2 is an economic catalyst for growth, creating thousands of jobs within the construction sector and associated supply chains.

Commenting on the Government’s decision to green light the construction of HS2, Corin Crane, Chief Executive of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce said; This is great news for businesses here in the Black Country. For far too long businesses have had to cope with heavily congested railways straining under over capacity issues.

The Black Country’s economy is growing quickly, we have ambitious regeneration plans for more high value jobs and thousands of new homes. Transport improvements at the national scale, such as HS2 and at the local scale, championed by Midlands Connect, are essential to realising them.
