West Park Hospital has been marked the best in the region in areas such as cleanliness and quality of food in a national survey.

The Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE) is an annual appraisal which looks at the environment in which care is given at hospitals across the country.

West Park Hospital has scored above the national average in all of the eight indicators.

Assessments are carried out annually by people who use the hospital. They look at areas such as privacy and dignity, food, cleanliness and building maintenance.

Cannock Chase Hospital and New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, also run by The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, scored highly.

West Park, New Cross and Cannock Chase hospitals all scored above the national average in at least six of the eight areas, with West Park scoring above average in all eight.

David Loughton, Chief Executive of the Trust, said: "Receiving feedback from our patients is something we value and encourage.

"We are pleased with the results which show that our staff work tirelessly to provide the highest standards possible.

"Our high scores are due to the hard work of everyone across the Trust and I would like to thank all the teams who contributed."
