This afternoon, Boris Johnson announced his resignation of leader of the Conservative Party, triggering the process to find its next leader and the country's Prime Minister.

Neil Anderson, Director of External Affairs said: "Today's announcement draws a line under the intense political instability of the last few days which saw many areas of government without ministers.

"The priority during the intervening period and for the next administration must be to provide business with certainty and establish the right economic conditions where local firms can grow and prosper.

"On top of long-standing issues, businesses across the region continue to face several challenges from supply chain pressures through to escalating energy costs and inflation.

"Action is needed quickly to help Black Country businesses. We hope that this opportunity to reset and rethink will bring much needed impetus and ensure focus returns to solving this. We will continue to work with the Government to ensure vital support for business remains a priority."

The timetable for electing the new Conservative leader is set to be announced early next week and it is anticipated that the new Prime Minister will be in office by Autumn.
