The Black Country Chamber of Commerce speaks to Charlotte the Copywriter.

As part of Women's History Month 2024, we are highlighting career stories of women who have received support from the Chamber's Start-Up Business Club and are currently operating their own businesses in the Black Country. Through the 'Women in Start-Up’ campaign we celebrate the significant contribution of female entrepreneurs across both the business and wider social community.

Charlotte the Copywriter is an experienced copywriting, brand voice and conversion strategist.

Introducing Charlotte Davies

I’m Charlotte, aka Charlotte the Copywriter, a messaging strategist and copywriter. I work with small businesses to turn leads into clients through research-backed, engaging copy and content.

1. How has the perception of female entrepreneurs changed since you became a small business owner?

In one sense, it hasn't changed. I've always known that female entrepreneurs have amazing vision, drive, and ambition.

What I have become more aware of is the extra responsibilities female entrepreneurs often have to juggle, whether it's looking after children or caring for older relatives.

2. What kind of community support have you helped foster/received as a woman in business?

Life as an entrepreneur, specifically a solopreneur, has unique challenges and can be lonely. Finding and developing a supportive network has therefore been essential. I've found community through membership of the Start Up Club, the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, Ignite coworking space and the NatWest Entrepreneur Accelerator.

In short, community is everything. It has given me guidance, friendship, and exciting business opportunities.

3. What advice would you give young girls and women aspiring to start their own business?

Be consistent and focus on the small steps. It takes time, but they all add up. The overnight transformations and big wins get all the attention, especially on social media.

However, it's the hard work behind the scenes and showing up when no one is watching that lead to long-term success.
