College opens new facility for students with SEND

Halesowen College welcomed Britain’s Got Talent finalist Eva Abley to open its Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) facility, The Hive in 5.

The development of The Hive in 5 is testament to the college’s commitment to inclusivity and meeting the diverse needs of learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), offering an accessible facility specifically tailored to foster a holistic approach to support, focusing not only on academic growth but also on the personal and social development.

The facility has been designed to create an inclusive and stimulating atmosphere that allows learners to thrive. It is equipped with qualified staff available throughout the day and offers students access to quiet spaces, sensory intervention and an area with computers allowing students who need time to continue with their learning and meet with Learning Support staff.

Jacquie Carman, Principal of Halesowen College, comments, "We are thrilled to unveil our new SEND provision, which represents a further step towards an inclusive educational experience. Every learner deserves equal access to education and opportunities, and the launch of The Hive in 5 ensures that students with SEND can receive the support they need to flourish academically, personally and socially."

Ian Hughes, Halesowen College Governor and non-executive Director of NASEN (National Association for Special Educational Needs) said “The Governing body recognise the importance of inclusion of all students.  The Hive in 5 has a holistic and person-centered approach that will support learners in reaching their full potential.”
