The Black Country Chamber of Commerce speaks to the Managing Director of Nant.

In our latest Ready for 2024 interview, Carl Baker, Managing Director at water safety specialist Nant, says that he is looking forward to celebrating his company’s 30th anniversary this year with further investment in his team.

As the region returns to work, the Black Country Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the companies looking forward to building success in 2024.

As part of Ready for 2024, we are profiling members who are ready to deliver on their exciting plans during the 12 months ahead.

Each day we are featuring member firms, ranging from start-ups to large companies, on the Chamber website and social media channels to get their views on the opportunities ahead during the next year.

Having moved to a new head office for Nant at Wolverhampton Science Park in 2022, Carl believes that the Black Country is a great place to do business with lots of opportunities for growth in the region.

What will your business be focussing upon in 2024?

Having spent the past few years investing in new technology and growing the business, our main focus for 2024 will be on investing in our people. This means continuing to build on our rewards package to provide competitive benefits, offering lots of learning and development opportunities to upskill our team and ensuring a great culture so that we remain an attractive company to work for. We are looking forward to celebrating our 30th anniversary, which is a big landmark for the business.

What are your hopes for the Black Country economy and its businesses in 2024?

Everyone is hoping to see the local economy and its businesses grow in 2024, although there are still testing times ahead. As many companies continue to find staff recruitment a challenge, I hope that we can work together to address some of the skills shortages we face in the region by investing in training, as this will help to maximise our growth potential.

Why will the Black Country be a great place to do business in the 12 months ahead?

The Black Country has always been a great place to do business, which is why we invested in a new head office for Nant at Wolverhampton Science Park in 2022. It is a fantastic place for companies that want to be centrally located within the UK. With the region benefiting from a lot of investment recently, there are lots of opportunities for further growth.

What will you use your Chamber membership for in the year ahead?

As a growing company, we are always looking for new business opportunities, so we look forward to more chances to network with other businesses across the region and establish new relationships. We hope to continue to raise our profile across the West Midlands via the Chamber and share best practice with other businesses in similar sectors to ours.

What do you hope will happen for the UK economy as a whole?

After the disruption of recent years, we are hoping for a more stable economy in the next 12 months. We hope to see businesses feeling more optimistic about investing in the future now that inflation is expected to slow down and interest rates to fall.
