Employers across the region are set to benefit from the appointment of a new head of apprenticeships at City of Wolverhampton College.

Richard Hewitt, aged, 40, a former account manager and apprenticeship sector lead at the college, will be heading up a team of apprenticeship trainers and assessors and working with local employers to ensure training meets the needs of their businesses and wider industry sectors.

The college offers almost 30 apprenticeships in 11 sector areas – including automotive, business, construction and engineering – with apprentices working for an employer and supported by trainers and assessors to work through a nationally agreed framework and achieve a set of industry-specific occupational standards.

Richard said: “Apprenticeship training is a cost-effective way to train new staff or upskill existing staff with the latest industry skills and knowledge and I am looking forward to engaging with local employers to further develop our apprenticeship programme in line with their business and wider sector requirements.

“There are exciting times ahead at the college with the new Advanced Technology and Automotive Centre under construction, and future plans for a city centre campus, which will enable apprentices to learn in state-of-the-art industry-standard facilities and further cement the college’s position as one of the leading providers of apprenticeship training in the region.”
