The Black Country Chamber of Commerce speaks to the Corporate Director of Thursfields Solicitors.

In one of the first Ready for 2024 interviews, Philip Chapman, Corporate Director at full service law firm Thursfields, gives his views on the opportunities for Black Country firms in the 12 months ahead.

As the region returns to work, the Black Country Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the companies looking forward to building success in 2024.

As part of Ready for 2024, we are profiling members who are ready to deliver on their exciting plans during the 12 months ahead.

Each day we are featuring member firms, ranging from start-ups to large companies, on the Chamber website and social media channels to get their views on the opportunities ahead during the next year.

As Corporate Director working with businesses in a range of sectors, Phil says the Black Country has the opportunity to be “a real alternative to London for business”.

Phil also gives his predictions for 2024, which he believes will see firms “becoming more optimistic with the prospect of inflation and interest rates having peaked”.

What will your business be focussing upon in 2024?

Thursfields will be focusing on customer growth and customer retention in the region. We will continue to focus on investment in people, bringing on board new colleagues to expand our service offering. We are also continuously developing our technology and infrastructure to further improve and align our services to match our client’s needs.

What are your hopes for the Black Country economy and its businesses in 2024?

We hope that the Black Country continues to stabilise its position as a leader in manufacturing and innovation. We would also hope for further investment in the area to create jobs and opportunities for businesses to expand.

Why will the Black Country be a great place to do business in the 12 months ahead?

The Black Country has always been a great place to do business. With all of the investment projects for 2024 in areas such as technology and infrastructure and the prospect of HS2, the region will be an important hub for the UK and will offer a real alternative to London for business.

What will you use your Chamber membership for in the year ahead?

We plan to support the Chamber and its members by sponsoring events and opportunities to network and grow relations. We also hope to provide insights to members to aid them with their legal requirements. We look forward to continuing and growing further relations with members.

What do you hope will happen for the UK economy as a whole?

We believe the economy will grow in 2024 and prove more resilient to the global events that are currently in play. There will be strong wage growth and a fall in inflation from the peaks of last year. We believe businesses are becoming more optimistic with the prospect of inflation and interest rates having peaked.
