The Black Country Chamber of Commerce speaks to the Business Centre Manager at West Midlands House Ltd.

In the latest Ready for 2024 interview, Jeni Sellick, Business Centre Manager at office and workspace provider West Midlands House Ltd, says she will be focussing on maximising workspace flexibility for small and start-up businesses in the Black Country and looking to invest in net zero projects.

Through Ready for 2024, the Black Country Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the companies looking forward to building success in 2024. We are featuring member firms, ranging from start-ups to large companies, on the Chamber website and social media channels to get their views on the opportunities ahead during the next year.

A bronze member of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, West Midlands House is a provider of serviced offices, meeting rooms, co-working space, virtual offices and therapy rooms. Based in Willenhall, it offers a first-class venue for meetings, training and interviews.

What will your business be focussing upon in 2024?

In 2024 WMH will be focussed on diversifying its products to maximise workspace flexibility for small and start-up businesses in the Black Country. We will also be looking to invest in net zero projects to become more energy efficient with the support of our local authority and available support projects.

What are your hopes for the Black Country economy and its businesses in 2024?

Even with the uncertainty we are faced with in our economy there are still opportunities to be had. Diversification and an everchanging company culture to boost focus and motivation can greatly improve our chances to achieve more. I think that working together to combine knowledge, expertise and opportunity will serve the Black Country well.

Why will the Black Country be a great place to do business in the 12 months ahead?

The Black Country has vast opportunities to celebrate its businesses through its remarkable heritage and transformation over the years. The Black Country people are robust and hardworking and have always had a ‘get things done’ workforce driving forward opportunities.

What will you use your Chamber membership for in the year ahead?

Our Black Country Chamber is a great marketplace for making new contacts and networking. We shall be building relationships with as many new partners as possible in 2024 to deliver support and the best value to the businesses in our local area. We shall also be regularly feeding back to our Chamber and its members our progress and news in a bid to share and include as many other businesses as possible in our learnings.

What do you hope will happen for the UK economy as a whole?

Global energy prices are affecting many businesses, so I hope that these will level out during 2024 to reduce the burden on small businesses. Whilst rising salaries will also impact small businesses, improved living standards for working families are vital for a happy and healthy population. Consumer price drops may be optimistic, but with inflation regulating somewhat, it would be good to see this reflected.
