Young Apprentice Joins Chamber Team

Apprentice content creator and digital illustrator, Owenia Francis, has joined the external affairs team at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce from the BBCs Apprentice Hub in Birmingham to take care of digital content for the region’s longest running business support organisation.

Berkshire born Owenia, a graduate of English Literature at the University of Birmingham, and an avid instigator and supporter of social action campaigns, has joined the marketing team based at the firm’s head office on the University of Wolverhampton Science, just a short drive from her home in Wolverhampton.

Owenia, who despite her young age brings a wealth of multimedia experience to the team, will work closely with content officer Lauren Shephard, who will oversee Owenia’s learning over the coming months.

Owenia said, “I’m very happy to be joining the team here at the Chamber. I’ve already had the opportunity to attend Chamber events and meet some of the amazing businesses across the region.

Chamber CEO Sarah Moorhouse said, “We are huge supporters of apprenticeships and encouraging the workforce of the future.

“The BBC Apprentice Hub is a great way for individuals to begin their career in the creative sector, and we are delighted to welcome our first-ever apprentice to the Black Country Chamber team.

“Owenia is already a valuable member of the marketing team, and her role will help us further amplify the Chamber name and the services we offer to our members and the wider Black Country community."

The BBC Apprentice Hub is a Flexi-Job Apprenticeship Agency (FJAA) where the BBC acts as the host employer, arranging placements for aspiring creatives with local businesses.

It's an exciting and engaging initiative that plugs a much-needed skills gap in the creative, cultural, gaming and digital sectors across the West Midlands.
